Screenprinting on Beeswax Wrap
-
A zero-waste alternative to single-use packing materials, Beeswax wrap is used to cover food, bowls, half a fruit, or for packing snacks on the go. Designed for Bare Necessities, a zero-waste lifestyle brand.
Motif Generation: Motifs of fresh produce.

Motifs for Mythbusting
People often make an assumption that, the fact that Beeswax wrap is a non-toxic, sustainable alternative to single use food packing methods, which also maintains freshness of the food, is too good to be true.
The concept was to create motifs of fresh looking produce signifying the effect of beeswax wrap on the food.

Final Motif #1: Tangerine Bunch.
(Process L to R: Watercolor representation to final vector)
Motif Arrangement : Arrangement #1 was finalized.

The following chosen motifs are to be screen printed onto a 100% cotton fabric, followed by a coat of Beeswax.
The number of colors are limited to just two, to control the costs.
Motif Generation: Motifs inspired by Leaves.
(Watercolor on paper)
In the above shown image, on the right is the chosen element, Banana Leaf: the essence of South India.

Bare Necessities, based in Bangalore, lies in the southern India.
Banana Leaf not only symbolizes the essence of South India, but it has been used to serve, package and carry food.
Connecting the dots between banana leaf and beeswax wrap, as a non-toxic and sustainable way of storing and carrying food.
Motif Generation: Banana Leaf representation in various explorative styles.
(Watercolor on paper)
Final Motif #2: Banana Leaf
(Process L to R: Watercolor representation, final vector, final arrangement)
Motif Arrangement: Arrangement #2 was finalized.
The background is kept in its natural off-white color, so as to control dye consumption; reduced screen-printing costs and a clean appearance as an added advantage.
Packaging Design for Beeswax Wraps.
The packaging created for beeswax wraps is in a form of a rectangular envelope, which has ample space for a set of three wraps. Adhering to the core ethos of the brand, the material chosen for the envelope is Craft Paper, that is biodegradable and recyclable in nature. The printing ink is a black water-based ink, which is sustainable and non-toxic in nature.
The printing technique used is manual screen-printing.
